Depending on which information you are looking at in your research, the most common information says that at least 70% of our immune system is connected to our colon (some estimates are as high as 90%). This makes sense, as our intestinal tracts are the largest immune organs in our bodies.

The newest data shows that stress is the precursor to many health issues and dis-eases. When we’re stressed, the immune system’s ability to fight off illness is reduced. That is why we are more susceptible to infections. And this year of 2020 has certainly been packed with stress triggers…lockdowns, job loss, businesses closings, protests, fires, domestic violence, cabin fever, quarantine weight gain, no funerals, weddings or graduations and more.

Before the unique stressors of year, the facts about the Standard American Diet (SAD) were mounting. The U.S. adult obesity rate (according to the CDC) stands at 42.4 percent, the first time the national rate has passed the 40 percent mark, and further evidence of the country’s obesity crisis.
