I was asked to speak at a cardiology convention here in Albuquerque 3 years ago. I started my talk with story about a well-known explorer, Ponce de Leon, searching everywhere for the elusive fountain of youth. He spent many years and traveled hundreds of miles through uncharted areas full of danger desperately seeking this fabled water.

This story is a good analogy for how we humans tend to always look for something outside ourselves to heal or fix us, when the answers are usually always right in front of us. (Actually, they’re inside of us.)

We are constantly looking out there for a new diet, vitamin, or pill to make us feel better. If we are sick, we go to someone to help us or look for medications to fix us. The catch 22 here is often medications/chemicals aimed at our symptoms can make us sicker by adding to our already overloaded system, even if they help in the short term. Take coffee for example. It gives your energy that you want and need, but to accomplish that it pushes your kidneys and adrenals to overwork adding to an already depleted situation. Like whipping a tired horse to move faster, we push ourselves and our bodies relentlessly. Always looking out there for a cure or fix…because what we think is our body letting us down or not performing correctly.

Our body is smarter than we think. In fact, our body unit is brilliant. It is always working to protect and heal us. No matter how much we abuse ourselves with bad food, toxic environments or stress, our bodies are designed to work hard to keep us safe. If your colon is irregular, stagnant or constipated then your kidneys work harder, and your liver becomes stressed. Your lymph system and lungs try to take up the extra slack. Your blood stream becomes more polluted, your allergies and sensitivities increase. Our body (in its wisdom) locates and borrows Energy from activities that would normally be allocated for anti-aging duties. So, to manage this overload you will become more tired and sluggish with an increase in pain levels and trouble sleeping. Waste products that are not being eliminated in a timely manner are what ages us the most, as well as contributing to deeper health issues and disease.

Everything downloads into the colon for removal. Only 40% of that waste is from food! About 60% is from everything else: cell sludge, organ waste, and emotional stress matter all migrate to the colon for removal. Cleanses and body work are helpful to rid the body of waste products at an accelerated rate. It makes sense to make sure the colon is in good working order before and during any other therapies. If the colon is overloaded, these toxins recirculate back into the body. A clean, functioning colon is essential to a healthy body and can contribute to longevity and vitality more than any other single thing you can do. By relieving the burden of overbearing toxins, the body goes to work replacing cells, increases circulation, and provides more energy and vitality. It does what it was designed to do. It heals you from within.
