Spring Cleaning

Open the windows and the doors, wash those windows and clean those floors! Let the fresh air flood the house everywhere. Spring is here!
I remember when I was a boy living in Iowa. Mom would take out all of the throw rugs and drape them over the clothesline to be beaten with a device designed for whacking rugs. Man, would the dust ever fly with each blow delivered to the rug! I can’t ever remember Mom beating any of those rugs inside the house…it was always done outside in the open air.
Unlike taking rugs outside to beat them (or other things that can be cleaned ouside), cleansing the inside of our bodies is an entirely different story. You still have to live in your body while you are cleansing it! You can’t just move into a hotel while remodeling or cleaning work is being done (as you can with your home).
Spring is the perfect time for cleansing; especially our bodies. According to Chinese medicine, the liver and gallbladder are more active during this spring. So, many people choose to do a liver-gallbladder cleanse during this season. Old timers (our grandparents) used to go out and gather spring greens like dandelion, mustard greens, burdock, lambs quarters, stinging nettles, throw them in a pot of boiling water and serve them up as soup. It really didn’t taste that good, but it sure did stir up your insides and clean you out.
You can avoid a cold, flu, or allergies with internal cleansing. Most people call the greens I mentioned weeds, but really they are tonic herbs which have been used forever for cleansing, building inner strength and health. So don’t go spraying Doomsday or Roundup on them to kill them, eat them instead!
There are many ways to cleanse: 1) Stop eating anything processed: boxed, bottled, canned, or packaged foods. 2) Get rid of all white foods like sugar, flour, dairy, and most grains. 3) Eat fresh good earth food, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, and grass-fed and free range animal products (avoid feed lot cattle and caged chickens). 4) Juicing or blending is an excellent way to get abundant nutrition into your cells and increase vitality. Water fasting or herbal cleanses are more aggressive ways to cleanse and may require guidance.
It has been said, “Healing or cleansing is not for sissies.” This is because no one likes feeling bad. The various forms of cleansing mentioned will stir up toxins that are buried in our bodies and begin to move them out. As a result, you could feel sick at the some point during this process. Preparing yourself in advance physically and (perhaps especially) emotionally for the possibility of feeling unwell prior to a cleansing can be very helpful; particularly if you experience a sudden toxic dump into your bloodstream and then toxins are recirculating during the cleansing process.
Hot Epsom salt or sea salt baths can help alleviate a healing crisis. Enemas are helpful, and colonics are the best for avoiding a cleansing crisis of any kind. They can help move you through the healing crisis more rapidly if you find yourself stuck in one.
Use caution when cleansing. There are more toxins stored in our bodies than you could ever imagine. This does not fail to recommend cleansing, however, DO NOT become a healing zealot. Cleansing too much or too rapidly can stir up too many toxins for your elimination organs to handle and you could become very sick. You can actually die in your own filth that has been buried and accumulating inside of you for years if you should force it to move out too fast.
Slow and easy wins the race. Make good choices every day. Be healthy, live long, and be vibrant forever!
Love, Bill
